Amman, October 15 (Petra) – The new passenger terminal headquarters at Durra Border Crossing in southern Aqaba governorate was inaugurated on Wednesday.

The inauguration followed the completion of the project: "Strengthening Border Management and Security Practices at Entry Points within Aqaba Governorate," implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and funded by Global Affairs Canada.

Shadi Majali, Chairman of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), Brig. Gen. Saed Qatawneh, Director of the Residency and Borders Department, Hussein Safadi, CEO of the Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC), Col. Nidal Shamayleh, Director of the Aqaba Border Customs Department, Karen Bongard, Political Counselor at the Canadian Embassy in Jordan, Fatima Ghazali, Head of IOM Mission and a number of military and civilian officials in Aqaba governorate attended the inauguration ceremony.

The project's implementation is an extension of the "effective" partnership between the Jordanian and Canadian governments, in cooperation with the IOM, aimed to enhance border security and develop police and service systems.

To achieve this vision, infrastructure was supported and modern technical and technological capabilities were provided, which would facilitate passenger movement and boost commercial and economic activity in the region.

The new facility provides several modern halls and offices, based on to the "highest" international specifications and standards, with "advanced" operational capabilities that aligns with the nature of its vital work.

The building will contribute to streamline travel procedures and movement of goods by integrating modern systems that enhance "efficiency and accelerate completing transactions." //Petra// AG
